It all began eight years ago today…
October 5th, 2009, the start of what we know as Starlight Studios. Only being married a few months and quitting my job as a preschool assistant, I found myself sitting in an empty children’s church room.
I waited, and hoped, for someone to walk in the door. The church was gracious in letting me use the space for free until I got a good clientele but the carpeted floor and lack of studio mirrors continued to test my humility. By December, I had a total of 3 students.
By next Christmas, we put on our first show, with 12 dancers and 5 musicians (one of them being Mr Kelly himself). It was a cute and family friendly event with games along with the performances. Even though it was small, it was still growth right?
After using a second church space and steadily growing over another year, it was time to take the leap to our own space or quit.
We leaped but ended up postponing our Grand Opening a week due to the birth of my first child, Taryn, 3 weeks prior. It was a big step and the push to survive was on.
More years have passed, my family has grown to include my little Aurora, and we’ve expanded in studio space, programs, and teachers. It’s been an amazing journey and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to add the performing arts to people’s lives.
Eight years has changed a lot of things, and I can’t wait to see what another eight years will bring! Thank you for those current and past that have come into our lives and let us teach and share our passion for dance and music.
Share your favorite Starlight Studios memory with us! We would love to hear from you!
